Reflections

This debut album is a masterful collection of original jazz compositions, with tracks that include the traditional jazz piano trio/ensemble, solo piano and piano with a full string orchestra.

It is a tribute to his family, friends and supporters and reveals his perception and worldview as expressed through music. His music has been described as “conceptualized in the manner of fine crystal: very slender, tender and beautiful.”

All of the recordings were produced on a Digital Work Station. Besides piano, Andrew performs all of the instrumental voicings on the album, including the bass, guitar, strings and horns. This presented a wonderful musical challenge for creativity and improvisation, which he certainly exceeded. The album opens with Joy Strut, a medium tempo composition, written in the cool jazz style of the 1950's and 1960's and shares elements of the bebop and classical swing styles. For My Brother is a lively and moving three/quarter uplifting and emotional track that opens and ends with a bass line that drives the entire song. It is accentuated by a tenor sax, muted trumpet and flute melody line, accompanied by a full string orchestra.

Reflections of You, A Father’s Love and Just for You are ballads dedicated to members of his family. These tracks can also be classified as modern creative and are mostly played without a tempo which further enhances the feeling and expression of love and devotion. Another Time/Another Place is a Latin jazz ballad that creates the image of romance in a tropical island setting.

Selden Street, a swinging medium tempo cool jazz track, reflects a vibrant and active urban neighborhood, coping with multiple challenges, but enjoying life, with the hope for a brighter future. The track is characteristic of the cool jazz/bebop sound and includes a beautiful melodic and harmonic interplay between the tenor sax and trumpet. Blues for Bloxson is a dynamic 12 bar blues, with two versions of the track on this album.

The last track, Tranquility, is an elegant ballad. With a beautiful melodic line and full string orchestra, it is certain to evoke feelings of peace, hope and serenity. Andrew is committed to writing, arranging and recording music and his debut album, Reflections, is a masterful collection of original jazz and modern creative compositions.
